about

Sophia Fox is a visual artist based in Minneapolis, MN. Extending from lithographs and wood-carved paintings to artist books and multimedia collages, Sophia’s interdisciplinary practice explores the interpretive potential of lived experience and its documentation. Labor, repetition and vulnerability outline Sophia’s process of integrating raw materials with fragmented texts and visual motifs from private documents into sensitive compositions which negotiate the abstraction and signification of inscribed histories. Her meticulous, relational mapping of salvaged forms and surfaces invites viewers to engage with her work as decoders of a visual language that dilutes the distinction between recollected and invented narratives. Sophia is an undergraduate student of visual art at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. She exhibited work at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Art Gallery and the Guerilla Art Show at Studio 113 in La Crosse, WI from 2019 to 2020, as well as the 2023 and 2024 MCAD Student Juried Art Exhibitions. In 2020, Sophia received the Richard Koehler Art Award for her photographic series Sugar Party. She was awarded the MCAD Admissions Merit Scholarship in 2022.
